From starter to dessert, the invitation is always the same: taste, savour, and come back.<\/p>\n<p>From A to Z, we share with you the traditional dishes of the Douro, highlighting the best each municipality has to offer:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alij\u00f3<\/strong>, land of wines and a rich list of traditional dishes. Among <em>enchidos<\/em> and smoked meats, highlights include <em>cabrito assado<\/em>, <em>bola de carne<\/em>, and <em>bacalhau frito com broa<\/em>. In sweets, we find <em>p\u00e3o-de-l\u00f3 de \u00e1gua<\/em>, <em>bolo de am\u00eandoa<\/em>, <em>cavacas de Santa Eug\u00e9nia<\/em>, <em>am\u00eandoas cobertas<\/em>, and <em>bolo borrach\u00e3o<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Armamar<\/strong>, capital of the mountain apple, brings to the table <em>bolinhos de ma\u00e7\u00e3<\/em>, <em>lencinhos de ma\u00e7\u00e3<\/em>, and <em>searas de ma\u00e7\u00e3<\/em>, showcasing the best of the local fruit.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Carrazeda de Ansi\u00e3es<\/strong>, where hunting still marks tradition. <em>Coelho \u00e0 ca\u00e7ador<\/em>, wild boar, and partridge sit alongside <em>presunto<\/em>, <em>chouri\u00e7o de carne<\/em>, and <em>salpic\u00e3o<\/em>. In the riverside areas, the famous <em>peixinhos do rio<\/em> with <em>molho de escabeche<\/em> are common. In 2021, the <em>Feira do Cabrito<\/em> was created to honour its traditional dish.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Freixo de Espada \u00e0 Cinta<\/strong> is known for its quality products, such as olive oil, olives, cheese, traditional smoked meats, oranges, honey, wine, and almonds. Typical dishes include <em>bola de azeite com queijo de cabra fresco<\/em>, <em>empada de carne<\/em>, and <em>bolas de sardinha<\/em>. The cuisine thrives on traditional soups like tomato, bean, river fish, and garlic, as well as game meat and fresh fish.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lamego<\/strong> is famous for its <em>bolas<\/em>, whether chicken, tuna, codfish, sardine, <em>vinha d\u2019alhos<\/em>, <em>presunto<\/em>, or ham. The <em>biscoito da Teixeira<\/em> is ideal for those with a sweet tooth.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mes\u00e3o Frio<\/strong> offers <em>carne em vinha d\u2019alhos<\/em>, <em>roj\u00f5es<\/em>, <em>tripas<\/em>, <em>marr\u00e3<\/em>, and the incomparable <em>cozido \u00e0 transmontana<\/em>. Codfish in all its variations, <em>trutas de escabeche<\/em> (fried or grilled), and <em>sopa de castanhas pilas<\/em> are also must-tries.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Moimenta da Beira<\/strong> is not only about wine and apples. Famous for <em>bolos amarelos com queijo fresco<\/em>, <em>arroz-doce<\/em>, <em>filh\u00f3s<\/em>, <em>bolinhos de ab\u00f3bora<\/em>, <em>creme queimado<\/em>, baked apple, and <em>bola doce \u00e0 antiga<\/em>.
