From April 17th to 19th, Torre de Moncorvo hosts another edition of its Medieval Fair<\/a>. Now in its thirteenth year, the event has grown in scale and established itself as a landmark in the cultural calendar of Portugal\u2019s northern interior\u2014and this year is no exception. Admission is free, and the fair opens daily at 10:00 AM.<\/p>\n

“Aromas and Flavors” take center stage<\/strong> The theme for 2026 focuses on the food and local products of the region during the reign of King Dinis. This isn\u2019t just a decorative theme: in the Middle Ages, food was far more than mere sustenance. It was the centerpiece for sealing deals, resolving conflicts, and building bonds. The organizers aim to bring this world\u2014in all its beauty and grit\u2014to the streets over these three days.<\/p>\n

The historic center features 13 thematic areas: arts and crafts, merchants, taverns, falconry, military life, street performances, equestrian demonstrations, and dedicated children\u2019s spaces. The program also includes the royal procession, knightly investitures, tournaments, historical reenactments, and the traditional Mass and Procession of Santa B\u00e1rbara. On April 17th and 18th, the show “A Villa Rica de Torre de Mem Corvo: Between Iron and the Vegetable Garden,” produced by Bruno Lopes, takes the stage.<\/p>\n

Why visit?<\/strong> While medieval fairs are common across the country, what makes this one different cannot be planned or hired: it is the residents of Torre de Moncorvo themselves who don traditional costumes and open their shops as if the 13th century never ended. It isn’t an imported performance; it\u2019s a community embracing a tradition built over a decade.<\/p>\n

The setting adds to the charm. The village\u2019s historic center, with its stone streets and human scale long lost in big cities, requires little transformation to feel medieval. The atmosphere fits naturally, and it shows.<\/p>\n

For families, it\u2019s a perfect plan with activities designed for youngsters. For solo travelers or groups, the taverns and local products make the trip worthwhile\u2014especially in an edition themed around eating and discovering local flavors.
