Description
This sculpture can be found in Vale de Figueira and dates back to the Iron Age.
It is very difficult to place this sculpture in an archaeological context, as it appears isolated and embedded in a wall.
This head may have belonged to a statue representing a warrior chief, similar to those that appear associated with settlements from this historical period in the north of the country. It is currently placed on top of a column in a square in the center of Vale de Figueira.
It is a head with a total height of 0.50m and a maximum width of 0.32m. The eyes are hollowed out and the nose engraved.
The mouth is the result of a bas-relief. On one side, at the level of the mouth, there is a depression. The neck is 0.16m wide and 0.10m high. The skull has a diameter of 0.23m. This is a piece of singular importance and beauty that deserves a fair amount of attention.
