Casa do Padre Coxo

Description

The origins of the Casa do Padre Coxo can be traced back to the construction project for the Sabor Line (1887): the first section of this track (completed on 17.09.1911) linked only the Pocinho station to Carviçais, where goods and passengers stopped. In the vicinity of the station - “Terminus” - of the line, the aforementioned dwelling was born, where not only friends stayed overnight, but also all those who wanted a quiet break after a tiring and endless journey. The next day, there was still a long way to go on horseback. Father Coxo soon left the priesthood, as happened with the railway services on the Sabor Line, which were prematurely suspended in 1988. In the early days, it was similar to a “T1+1” - all covered in cork, with outbuildings for poultry, pack animals and sheep. These dwellings have recently undergone reconstruction and extension work, giving way to a T2 (Sheep Court) and a T3 (Cork House) surrounded by a cozy green space.
