Gente Da Nave House Museum

Description

The Casa Museu Gente da Nave was founded in November 2000. In it we can find real relics that once filled people's homes and lives, from the iron pots to the hoe that we could find in the kitchens, the clogs next to the bed, the telephone on the kitchen cupboard, the trousseau at the end of the bed, the straw mattresses that were used on the coldest winter nights, the rag bedspreads. It is located at the top of the Tulha square, in Alvite, in one of the old streets where granite embellishes the houses and slabs build up the street, in this small town on the Nave Plateau. Time passes and gradually tries to erase the best that this village has to offer: its handicrafts, its traditions, the culture of a people who for many years lived forgotten and hidden in the middle of the Nave plateau. These are the most precious assets of this land and its inhabitants want to keep them at all costs, because they are the reason for their existence. For many years, the Alvitanos worked with the materials that the land gave them, creating beautiful pieces of handicraft such as baskets, quilts, lace tablecloths, clogs, sieves and masseiras, as well as the iron pots in which they used to eat by the fire.
