Description
Of Baroque origin, the Church of São Pedro was built in 1528 at the behest of D. Pedro de Castro, Abbot of Mouçós, who was buried there in 1692. Domingos Botelho da Fonseca, a nobleman of the Royal House, who also lies there, had the chancel tiled. The rich carving and coffered ceiling are noteworthy.
With its profusely decorated façade, this church is one of the best religious examples of the Baroque style in Vila Real and is the only church with two bell towers in Vila Real.
