Description
This Miradouro is located at one of the highest points in the municipality, around 470m above sea level. From the viewpoint, with the city of Vila Real at your feet and the Serra do Marão on the horizon, you can see the lush slopes of the Corgo, the Alto Douro Wine Region, which UNESCO has classified as a World Heritage Site. The beautiful chapel on the site is dedicated to the Virgin Barbara, who is a powerful saint and protector against the ravages of thunderstorms that sweep down in torrents and hailstorms and destroy the shoots of the vineyards. The invocation is undoubtedly ancient. Santa Bárbara is one of the most common saints to be found on the wine-growing terraces of the Alto Douro. Rare is the parish that doesn't have its own chapel or its own image in the parish church or chapel. Everything is situated in a pleasant and well-refurbished surrounding area. We can see the meandering Corgo river with its clear and abundant waters, flanked by terraced vineyards, giving everyone who travels along the Corgo line the chance to enjoy and feel the pleasure of contemplating one of the most majestic landscapes in the world.
