Arcozelo Da Torre Ethnographic Museum

Description

History is made over the centuries and it is necessary to preserve it, which is why the Associação de Solidariedade Social de Arcozelo da Torre - ARCA (Arcozelo da Torre Social Solidarity Association), as a result of its long-standing dedication to defending popular culture and the uses and customs of "yesteryear", the pioneer of many initiatives and long associative journeys in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira, saw the need to value and promote cultural heritage, and to this end created an Ethnographic Museum. He has recreated a unique and typical rural environment in a ruined house that he acquired and where he has faithfully reconstructed a farmhouse from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. There is no shortage of rooms, from the pig store to the cow store, from the grain store to the cellar, the typical kitchen, the small rooms typical of the time with beds that were nothing more than simple trestles on which boards were superimposed and the "enxerga" - straw mattress - was placed, all done in the original style and preserved in accordance with the rules that demand authenticity and the inhospitable beauty of stone and wood. The Ethnographic Museum of Arcozelo da Torre is a permanent exhibition, where objects and tradition are still what they were and are instruments for studying the region's identity, in a context of humble land that exalts man, but also art.
