Description
This is the most significant archaeological site in Lamego, bearing witness to two millennia of evolution in the city. The remains, arranged in overlapping layers, offer a real journey through time: from the Roman occupation (1st - 5th centuries) and the Suevo-Visigothic occupation (5th - 7th centuries), when the city became an episcopal seat, through its use as a cemetery (9th - 11th centuries), to the construction of the new wall (12th - 13th centuries) and the urban organisation of the Bairro do Castelo. The route allows you to see the structures, video projections and various artefacts found, such as a Roman monetary treasure from the 4th century, pieces of ceramics, glass and everyday utensils. An interactive screen also provides detailed information about the cemetery and the bioanthropological data of the people buried there.
