Description
The sanctuary of Nossa Senhora Dos Aflitos in Pegarinhos, popularly known as Senhora Aparecida, originated, according to tradition, in the devotion aroused by an image of the Virgin found by hunters on the hill where the Chapel now stands.
This attracted the attention of the Franciscan friars who settled there, promoting the cult of the Lady of the Afflicted, whose first pilgrimage dates back to 1835, and building the aforementioned Chapel in 1838, which bears the "Arms of St. Francis". The main day of the pilgrimage, on the last Sunday in August, is marked by the famous triumphal procession in which dozens of figures walk through the streets of the parish representing biblical scenes.
People flock to see the event on this day.
