Pala Pinta Rock Shelter

Description

The rock art shelter called Pala Pinta belongs to the parish of Carlão. It consists of a group of rock paintings from the Neolithic/Chalcolithic period. It is around 12m long and no more than 2.5m high. The main panel, which contains most of the figures, is located on the right-hand side of the shelter and is made up of five striped signs with asteriform lines (probably depicting the sun). It is therefore possible that we are in the presence of a site chosen for manifestations of worship, in other words, a true rock sanctuary. Access to this archaeological site is limited and requires a guided tour.
