Chapel of Santa Marta

Description

Overlooking the current town center, this chapel is the origin of the municipality's current name. The interior houses a wooden altar in a neoclassical, popular and simple style, with the eighteenth-century image of St. Anthony standing out, as well as the images of St. Brás and, of course, the patron saint St. Martha. They are all in polychrome wood. Set in a partially walled churchyard with wrought-iron railings, the chapel's entrance, with a depressed arch, has a stonework frame with rectilinear friezes and is decorated with a projecting arch that extends into a curved pediment in the shape of an eaves. Above the entrance is a mullioned, bilobed window with campaniform floral pendentives and a lis lock articulated with the pediment of the door. Also noteworthy, at the angles of the rear façade, are the upper ends of the cornerstones, made of arched stonework with pendentives.
