CIMI - Interpretive Center of the Iberian Mask

Description

Conceived as a cultural space dedicated to the Mask, the Interpretive Centre of the Iberian Mask has as its main objective the enhancement, promotion and dissemination of this cultural heritage of universally recognized importance, symbolism and significance. Built in the former manor house of the Viscounts of Lazarim, the CIMI has an exhibition - costumes, masks and objects from the winter masquerades and entrudos of Portugal and Spain - and a library, with plans to prepare content for a media library and photo library. The strong presence of masks and related rituals justifies the existence of an interpretive center that seeks to involve all these cultural manifestations, studying and interpreting their meaning through contact with the people and research into their histories and origins. A cultural space rich in stories and traditions that tell of experiences of yesteryear that still insist on being renewed today, revealing symbolic rituals whose origins have been lost in time.
