Homem do Douro

Located at the central traffic circle of the town of Alijó, the statue of the Douro Man by Laureano Ribatua, a notable sculptor from the municipality, pays tribute to the man who cleared the land, built the vineyards, climbed terraces with a basket on his back, who through the effort of his work transformed his most important livelihood into a marvelous set of verdant terraces that embellish the banks of that great river that is the Douro. Today, this statue is a true icon of the town of Alijó and its wine-growing territory.
