PR6 SMP Trilho Portas da Vila

Description

This circular trail is about 5 km long and starts at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, whose pilgrimage is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of August. From there, and when we start the descent to the Laurentim chapel, we can glimpse the Vinhateiro valley and the amazing slopes of Serra do Marão. After immersing ourselves in the vineyards, and contemplating all its variety of grape varieties, we went up to São João de Lobrigos, from where we could glimpse the Douro River. Back to the magnificence of the corridors of the vineyards, after passing through the center of the urban area of São João, we set our eyes on the top to find the end of the route, again at the place of worship of Senhora da Guia.

This trail takes us to the heart of this Douro municipality, from its wonderful landscape of vineyards, bordering olive groves and Mediterranean forests to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia (where the route begins) and the Chapel located in Laurentim. This route is entirely linked to the endogenous products of SANTA MARTA de Penaguião, the grape and the olive. Typical olive trees, schist walls and extensive vineyards fill the landscape, leaving us with a unique legacy of high heritage quality, whether cultural, environmental, or architectural.

Recommendations

This trail begins at the Chapel of N. Sra. da Guia, whose pilgrimage is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of August.

The Main Church of São Miguel, located very close to this Chapel, was founded in 1191.

São João de Lobrigos was an abbey belonging to the Marquises of Arronches and is one of the richest abbeys in Portugal. The Church is considered Heritage - Property of Public Interest, by Decree-Law nº 474.008, of 24-01-1967.

Tips

The Organ that was in the main chapel (on the Gospel side) and leaning against the crossing arch, is currently in the center of the nave, on the left side.

It is an 18th century organ, with gilded applications, which displays decorative panels with baroque plant painting and is still in full operation.
